Save Moore Street Awareness Week 408 – 16 July 2022

DAOINE
The foireann on the cobbles inniu was Bróna, Orla, Daniel and Diarmuid. Also Jack – in between entertaining us and the street with renditions of “The Foggy Dew, James Connolly the Irish Rebel, The Merry Ploughboy, Erin go Bragh”, accompanying himself on guitar.

Steve came nearer the end after attending a gravestone erection in Glasnevin for a 1916 civilian victim of Britsh fire in 1916. With all hands on deck we were able to pack up quickly, which was good as some of us had somewhere else to go afterwards.
We were not as busy overall as we had been last week.

One of the interesting people to stop and sign the petition and to talk to us was Mary Doyle, formerly Poole. Her grandfather John Poole was one of five brothers in the Irish Citizen Army, the first workers’ army in the world. She told us that they were photographed on top of Liberty Hall; later they all took part in the 1916 Rising and all survived. Mary lives in Ballymun but has Poole relatives in Finglas too.

A man from Kosovo but 12 years in Ireland was encouraging us to fight to save our heritage. And an Italian living here was also supportive. A young Brazillian man who got a leaflet from us last week came back today to sign the petition.

UASDÁTÚ
We heard from the street that a Council Planning Enforcement Officer had been in the the premises where we feared a party wall had been cut or was about to be cut but as yet we have no update on what his verdict was.

A number of Council officers were also seen walking around the street and looking during the week but for what purpose is not clear.

No update on the O’Rahilly Monument replacement signpost yet.
The deadline is Monday we believe for the appeal to An Bord Pleanála about DCC’s Planning Department approval of the third Hammerson application on the street and though we’ve been running late, we’ll be lodging (and paying to do) that.
